Chemical Peels

Facial Chemical Peel: Instant Radiance

  • Does your skin look old and dull?
  • Do you want a mild, pain-free and cost-effective treatment?
  • Are you looking for instant results with no recovery time?

Why do I need a chemical peel face treatment?

For years, your poor face has been exposed to a variety of damaging sources. All that time sunbathing, UV exposure, extreme climates, smoke, air conditioning, heating and pollutants in the air all have an effect on your skin. Over time, dead skin cells accumulate on your face and clog up your pores. Hey presto – you look in the mirror and think your skin looks dull, and you look older than you’d like.

Chemical Peels

At Skin Aesthetics, we offer chemical peels which reverse the signs of aging. They are safe, mild and affordable, so what are you waiting for?

Chemical peels: Top five benefits

1. Quick, painless and easy application
2. Instant results, which continue to improve over several weeks
3. Reduce age spots and even out skin tone
4. Improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
5. Lighten and improve the appearance of blemishes, scars, and pigmentation

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peels use naturally occurring acids to remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface which, in turn, will stimulate new skin cells to grow. These new cells create newer, smoother, healthier and more youthful looking skin and transform your face from dull to divine.

Your anti-aging face peel treatment plan

When you visit the Skin Aesthetics clinic for your consultation, Dr Qian will discuss your medical history and skin concerns with you to assess whether this treatment is suitable for you.

If it is appropriate, she will design a customised anti-aging treatment plan for your skin. The number of peels that she recommends will depend on your skin type and condition, and the results you want to achieve.

At your consultation you’ll be able to discuss the different types of skin peels available, how they could work for your skin condition, what to expect from the process and results and how to care for your skin before and after your treatments. You will have the opportunity to discuss any questions you may have. You do not need to go ahead with the treatment if you decide it’s not for you.

What happens at my chemical peel session?

First of all, your face will be thoroughly cleansed and prepared.

Dr Qian will then apply a mild acid which will be brushed onto your face like a face mask. Depending on which product is used, it will either be removed from your skin after 10 minutes or so or left on until it disappears by itself.

Your treatment will be customised for you to treat your skin, and you will know what is going to be happening to you as your treatment plan will be discussed with you before your treatment starts.

Several layers of the product may be applied to make the effects of the peel stronger. Different products can be used on different parts of the face depending on your specific concerns.

During the peel process your superficial skin layers will peel off revealing a smoother more radiant complexion. This is not usually visible to the naked eye. Depending on the depth of the peel, some light peeling may occur over the next few days and up to two weeks post-treatment.

How does it feel to have a chemical peel?

During a mild chemical peel, you won’t feel any pain; just a mild tingling or warm sensation, so you’ll be able to relax and spend your treatment time fantasising about your new beautiful skin!

What happens after my chemical peel?

After the treatment, your skin may feel tighter and will be slightly red. This is normal. We’ll always apply a recovery balm and sunscreen to moisturise and protect your lovely new skin. You will receive a post-treatment pack which contains the skincare products you should use for the next few days. After that, you can go back to your usual skincare products.

Skin care after a chemical peel face mask

After your peel, your skin will be sensitive for a week or so, so it’s really important that you protect it by wearing a sunscreen with physical block (minimum SPF 30) for at least a few days after the treatment. This sunscreen will be in your post-treatment pack.
Please don’t exfoliate, wax, have laser treatment or have another chemical peel for two weeks after your treatment.

In the longer term it is important that you follow a good skin care routine. If you need some advice about this, or want to try our recommended skincare products, just ask Dr Qian when you see her.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear makeup immediately after a peel?

You can put on eye makeup and lipstick, but otherwise no makeup for 12 hours. At the end of your treatment we will apply a sunscreen which can be tinted if you choose so you can carry on with your day without your face feeling too naked.

How long will it take any redness to reduce?

The redness will usually settle within an hour but, if you have fair skin, any redness may be more noticeable and therefore may last a bit longer.

Is a chemical peel bad for my skin?

As long as the treatment is performed properly by a trained professional your peel is not bad for the skin. In fact, it stimulates skin rejuvenation.

How much peeling will I get?

This depends on the depth of the peel and how sensitive your skin is. The deeper the peel and the more sensitive your skin is, the more peeling you will get.

How often will I need the treatment?

It is generally recommended that you have a set of three peels to begin with; all two weeks apart. Then you can have one every month or two for maintenance.

Can I have a chemical peel after laser hair removal or waxing?

Please wait at least two weeks after to allow your skin to recover.
