Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating: banish hyperhidrosis

  • Is hyperhidrosis making your life a misery?
  • Are you embarrassed by those underarm wet patches on your nice shirt?
  • Do you wish your makeup would stay put instead of coming off thanks to excessive sweating?

Dr Qian can help.

Why do I need treatment for excessive sweating?

Sweating is your body’s normal response to help cool you down; however, when it is excessive, it can have such a negative impact on your life. If you’ve followed all the lifestyle advice given to you by your GP, medication has not worked, and you’re looking for alternatives to iontophoresis then look no further!

Excessive sweating treatment: top three benefits

1. Feel more confident, relaxed and happy in your day-to-day life
2. Non-surgical solution, so no down time
3. Your anxiety levels will be decreased, thereby making it less likely that hyperhidrosis will be a problem

How does excessive sweating treatment work?

The same Botulinum toxin used in anti-wrinkle injections can also inhibit sweat production from the sweat glands. It is injected in to the skin in areas where you suffer from excessive sweating. The effects will be seen after a few days, and will last around three months.

Your hyperhidrosis treatment plan

When you visit the Skin Aesthetics clinic for your consultation, Dr Qian will discuss your medical history and concerns with you to assess whether this treatment is suitable for you.
During your consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss any questions you have. You can then choose to have the procedure or not. If it is appropriate, the treatment can sometimes be given on the same day following the consultation.

What happens at my hyperhidrosis session?

Generally around 15-20 injections are given in each area; normally in the armpits, hands, feet or forehead. This takes up to 45 minutes but the effects can last for about three months. Treatment can be repeated every 10-12 weeks.

How does it feel to have a hyperhidrosis treatment?

The treatment is slightly uncomfortable but not painful. The hands and feet tend to be more sensitive, so a nerve block is given to numb the palms and soles of the feet.

What happens after my treatment?

You are free to carry on your day as usual.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear deodorant or antiperspirant after my procedure?

Please do not put anything on the injection sites for six hours after the procedure.

Can I have a shower afterwards?

Please keep the injection sites dry for 12 hours. You may have a shower after 12 hours.

If I have it for my forehead, will it paralyse my muscles as well?

It may weaken the forehead muscles slightly, but that will wear off after a couple of weeks. The dose of botulinum toxin used for hyperhidrosis is lower than for wrinkle reduction. Also, the injection sites are different.

Can I have the treatment if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

No, just to be on the safe side. Do not worry if you have had the treatment and later found out you were pregnant. There is no evidence to show that botulinum toxin causes any harm to the baby.
